George Yeakle was born in Cocalico Township, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania in 1738. His father, Benedict Yeakle, came to America from Switzerland in 1736 on the ship Princess Augusta. Benedict died at the young age of about 31 years old. George then went to Womelsdorf, Pennsylvania to live with family friends his father came to America with. George and his wife were active in the St. Daniels Lutheran Church in nearby Robesonia, Pennsylvania, where he served as Deacon in the 1760’s. Eager for adventure, George and Anna moved westward to Northumberland County, Pennsylvania in about 1770. During the Revolutionary War, George served as a Ranger in the Frontier Army of Northumberland County Pennsylvania. He died in 1784 at 46 years old.
