The Blue Water Chapter:
The Blue Water Chapter of the Michigan Society of the Sons of the American Revolution (SAR) is a relatively recent addition to the SAR family, having received its charter approval on January 30, 2016. This chapter serves a valuable purpose by offering a central location for SAR members residing in the Port Huron area and the broader Michigan's Thumb region.
One of the primary objectives of the Blue Water Chapter is to actively promote and uphold the core goals of the SAR. This includes fostering a sense of patriotism and historical awareness among local youth through the sponsorship of various awards and educational contests. Additionally, the chapter recognizes and honors community leaders and organizations for their outstanding service with service awards and flag certificates.
In line with the SAR's mission, the Blue Water Chapter is dedicated to preserving the memory of the patriot forefathers who played crucial roles in achieving American independence. They achieve this through educational programs and the marking of patriot graves, ensuring that the legacy of these individuals lives on.
Being a newer organization within the SAR, the Blue Water Chapter offers a unique and engaging opportunity for members to actively participate in chapter activities and assume leadership roles. Regular meetings are conveniently scheduled bimonthly on Tuesday evenings at the historic Dorsey House, located approximately 10 miles northwest of Port Huron. This central meeting place allows members to come together and work towards the SAR's noble objectives while fostering a sense of camaraderie and dedication to American history and heritage.
President Nathan Smith
Nathan Smith is a dedicated and lifelong resident of Michigan's Thumb area. Together with his wife, Kelly, they have a loving family consisting of three young sons named Parker, Grayson, and Bryson. Nathan's professional life is marked by his role as a Lieutenant with the Sanilac County Sheriff's Office, where he assumes responsibility for overseeing various critical divisions, including Uniform Services, the Detective Bureau, Marine, and Records.
Beyond his law enforcement career, Nathan Smith is an active member of several important fraternal organizations, demonstrating his strong commitment to community and heritage preservation. Currently, he serves as the Commander for the Department of Michigan within the Sons of Union Veterans, highlighting his dedication to honoring and preserving the legacy of those who served in the Union Army during the American Civil War.
Furthermore, Nathan is a member of various other esteemed societies, including the Marlette Masonic Lodge, the St. Andrews Society of Detroit, La Société des Filles du roi et soldats du Carignan, Clan Stewart Society of the USA, and Clan Campbell Society of the USA. His involvement in these organizations reflects his passion for heritage, culture, and community involvement. Nathan Smith is a pillar of his local community and a committed advocate for preserving historical and fraternal traditions.
Registrar/Genealogist Robert Eager
Robert Eager is a seasoned educator with a rich and diverse professional background. He spent a remarkable 32 years at Sandusky Community Schools, where he fulfilled various roles, including counselor, history teacher, computer science teacher, and technology coordinator. Following his career in education, he transitioned into the field of software development, where he worked for several years.
However, Bob's true passion lies in genealogy and family history. Since 2010, he has been an active member of the Sons of the American Revolution (SAR), demonstrating his dedication to preserving and celebrating the heritage of his ancestors who contributed to the American Revolution. Notably, he played a pivotal role in the formation of the Blue Water Chapter when it was established in 2016, transitioning from his prior membership with the Paul Emory chapter to become a charter member.
Throughout his SAR journey, Bob has taken on various leadership roles, including President, Trustee, and Registrar/Genealogist. Additionally, he has contributed his expertise to state committees focused on genealogy, education, and strategic planning, highlighting his commitment to the organization's mission and goals.
