Private Joseph Ketchum was the son of Ebenezer and Mary Sherwood Ketchum and was baptized August 23, 1761 in the Wilton, Connecticut Congressional Church. He died in July 17, 1817 in Lisle, Broom County, New York. He served as a Drummer Boy in the American Revolution, a private in Captain John Spoor’s Company, Colonel John Brown’s Regiment from July 18 until October 23, 1780. He was a farmer before entering the service from the town of Stockbridge, Township of Barrington, State of Massachusetts, where he went as a substitute for another man named Eddy. Joseph married Sarah, daughter of Ezra and Ann Pixley Whittlesey on the 11th day of March, 1788.
