It’s our great pleasure to announce that NSSAR Secretary General Brooks Lyles is coming to Speak at GLD/MISSAR BOM in Grand Haven in Oct. 23-24, 2026! He’s the highest-ranking National SAR Officer that we’ve had come to Michigan in 5 years! He’ll also be accompanied by his lovely wife, Diane Ungvarsky.

T. Brooks Lyles (North Carolina SAR)
The Secretary General maintains the official records of the activities of the Executive Committee, Trustees, and national SAR Congresses. He coordinates with the SAR Headquarters’ staff on compiling the officer and committee reports for distribution at meetings and also oversees the notices for scheduled meetings along with meeting registrations.
Compatriot Lyles is a retired Army officer, a member of the Mecklenburg Chapter of the North Carolina Society, and has been a member of the SAR since 2008. Before his election as Secretary General, he served as Treasurer General from 2025 to 2026, Registrar General from 2024 to 2025, and Historian General from 2022 to 2024. He also spent six years on the National Color Guard Command Staff, culminating in his selection as National Color Guard Commander from 2022 to 2023. From 2017 to 2018, he served as Vice President General of the International District and as the President General’s Travel Coordinator. He is a member of the SAR Foundation Board and has served on the Museum Board since 2019. He was elected to the George Washington Endowment Fund Board for 2019 to 2023 and is currently serving his second three-year term on the Strategic Planning Committee. He also chaired the Education Committee from 2016 to 2023 and the History Committee from 2020 to 2021. Before moving to his current home in South Carolina, he served the Kansas Society from 2013 to 2021 as Vice President, President, Trustee, and Alternate Trustee. His wife, Diane Ungvarsky, recently completed her term as First Vice President of the National Ladies Auxiliary, and his two grandsons are members of the SAR.
