Pvt. John French by J.C. Carlson NSSAR #166455

John French was one of the “Green Mountain Boys” in Major Brown’s detachment under General Arnold’s Regiment, and he likely participated in the taking of Ft. Ticonderoga. From 24 September to 20 October 1777, John French appears on a pay roll of Captain Josiah Boyden’s company in Colonel William Williams’ Regiment of Militia in the service of the United States on an expedition to Bennington in 1777. This expedition appears to have been called to support the American forces at the Battle of Bennington, or the Battle of Saratoga. General Burgoyne surrendered at Saratoga on 17 October 1777.
