Abiah Damon was born in Abington, Massachusetts, on 6 Sept 1761, and died in Charlotte, Maine on 9 Apr 1836. He married Lucretia Gardner (1764-1857) on 8 Oct 1783 in Hingham, Massachusetts and the couple had at least six children.
In 1777, Damon enlisted in the Artillery as a private under Capt. Amos Lincoln in Col. Paul Revere’s Massachusetts Regiment. He was in the battle of Rhode Island in 1778 and the Bagaduce (Penobscot) Expedition in 1779. He received a pension for two years actual service as a private in the Massachusetts line. Damon also served in the Massachusetts Volunteer Militia in the War of 1812 at Plymouth, Massachusetts between Oct 1812 to May 1813 as a private in Lt. Ebenezer Simmons’ Guard under General Goodwin.
Damon returned to his home in Charlotte, Maine after his service and lived out his life on his farm. After his passing, he was buried at the Damon Ridge Cemetery in Charlotte. His name appears in the first U.S. federal census taken in 1790, listing him living in Township East of Machias, Washington County, Maine.
