Eleazer Carter was born August 23, 1740 in Hebron, Tolland County, Connecticut, the son of Thomas Carter and Sarah Gilbert, and brother of Thomas Carter, Joseph Carter, John Carter, Mercy (Carter) Brownson and Benoni Carter. He died February 7, 1777 in Warren, Litchfield County, Connecticut, and was buried in Warren Center Cemetery (OLD) in Warren, Litchfield County, Connecticut.

Eleazer was the first husband of Elizabeth Buell (born 29 Nov 1744 in Hebron, Tolland, Connecticut Colony; died 16 Aug 1832 in Darien, Genesee, New York). Her second marriage was to Major Benjamin Ackley (born 28 Oct 1739 in East Haddam, Middlesex, Connecticut Colony; died 28 Mar 1796 in Castleton, Rutland, Vermont).

Lt. Eleazer Carter enlisted in the Continental Army. His company was disbanded temporarily, and he returned home only to die of small-pox in his thirty-seventh year. Eleazer left a widow and six children, the oldest of whom – Lorenzo Carter – was but eleven years of age. Eleazer served as lieutenant in Capt. Joseph Carter’s company of the Connecticut militia in the New York campaign in 1776.

Elizabeth Buell was the daughter of Samuel Buell (born 5 Nov 1708 in Lebanon, New London, Connecticut Colony; died 4 May 1759 in Kent, Litchfield, Connecticut), and Mary Judd (born 1712 in Hebron, Tolland, Connecticut Colony; died 18 Jul 1754 in Hebron, Tolland, Connecticut Colony).
