“Caleb Owen” appears with the rank of Lieutenant on a pay roll (period Sept 24 – Oct 20, 1777) of Captain Josiah Boyden’s company in Colonel William Williams’ Regiment of Militia in the service of the United States on an expedition to Bennington in 1777. This expedition appears to have been called to support the American forces at the Battle of Bennington, or the Battle of Saratoga. General Burgoyne surrendered at Saratoga on 17 October 1777.
