Johannes was born 24 Jan 1730 in Alsace-Lorraine, Germany. He sailed Rotterdam on the ship Chance to the port Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in 1674. He served in the Revolutionary War in the Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania militia in 1776 and the Rangers on the frontier in 1778 to 1783. The fifth series of the Pennsylvania archives lists him as a soldier of the Revolution in the Continental Line.
Johannes was not educated or a man of means; he was potter by trade. He married Catherine Weigle in 1780 in Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania and they had 10 children. Boston Hoblit served in the war of 1812. Johannes died 3 May 1796 in Woodford, Kentucky.
