This scholarship is open to all Eagle Scouts who are currently registered in an active unit and have not reached their 19th birthday during the year of application. College plans do not need to be completed in order to receive the cash scholarship.
Three cash scholarships are awarded. The National First Place winner receives $10,000, the runner-up receives $6,000, and the 2nd runner-up receives $4,000. College plans do not need to be completed in order to receive the scholarship. Eagle Scouts may apply for more than one year (if age requirements are met), but no individual may receive more than $10,000. (Prizes may also be awarded at the state and local levels.)
Only one application is required to enter the program, and this is submitted for the local SAR chapter competition. The winner at the local chapter then enters the State competition, then the winner of the State competition goes on to National. (Entrants may also enter at the State level, but not at the National level.) The application for the scholarships follows the entrant throughout the process. The application consists of a two-page form, a four-generation ancestry chart, and an essay of approximately 500 words featuring an American patriotic theme. The deadline for submissions to the State competition is December 31 of each year, and prizes are awarded the following Spring.
Please see your local SAR chapter leaders for details about applications and prizes, or use the form at the right.
