This scholarship is open to all Eagle Scouts who are currently registered in an active unit and have not reached their 19th birthday during the year of application. College plans do not need to be completed in order to receive the cash scholarship.
Three cash scholarships are awarded. The National First Place winner receives $10,000, the runner-up receives $6,000, and the 2nd runner-up receives $4,000. College plans do not need to be completed in order to receive the scholarship. Eagle Scouts may apply for more than one year (if age requirements are met), but no individual may receive more than $10,000. (Prizes may also be awarded at the state and local levels.)
The application is submitted to the local SAR Chapter. The winner at the local chapter is forwarded by the Chapter for consideration in the State competition. The winner of the State competition goes on to the National competition.
The application for the scholarships follows the entrant throughout the process. The application consists of a two-page form, a four-generation ancestry chart, and an essay of approximately 500 words featuring an American patriotic theme.
Most Chapters have a deadline for entries of December 1st of each year. This allows time for the Chapter to select the Chapter winner for submissions to the Michigan Society competition prior to the State deadline, which is December 31 of each year. Winners are recognized and prizes are awarded the following Spring.
Please contact your local SAR chapter leaders for details about applications, Chapter deadlines and Chapter prizes, or use the form at the right.
